Dhamak is a project based in East Lancashire where young people can get together to make eclectic sounds combining South Asian and western dance music styles, a chance to combine and be influenced by music forms such as Punjabi folk songs, Keerwa beats, Hiphop and Drum'n'Bass. It is aimed at under 18 year olds and is welcome to anyone whatever their musical experience.
The sessions give an opportunity to discover new sounds and beats, making music with instruments such as dhol, tabla, dholak and harmoniums as well as keyboards, samplers, decks and vocals. Plus a chance to be involved in range of musicmaking involving rhythm, songwriting, singing, improvisation and technology.
Dhamak Collective
The Dhamak Collectiveis a group of young dhol drummers, DJ's,
singers and rappers led by drummer Abdul Salek and ace scratcher Sean Canty.
Beats crack out of the drums, off the vinyl and into the air. The performance
collective has grown out of workshops in East Lancashire towns running over
the last year, collecting energy, finding new grooves and mixing and matching
styles and tunes.
An MMM project in partnership with Mid Pennine Arts
The collective is available for bookings at indoor and outdoor events and
is truly funky and alive and funky.
